On the 6th day of December

Christmas Crackers are a tradition that I adore, they are filled with silly things
like paper crowns, plastic rings and just totally useless fun things.
Now I fill them with little cars for my boys and tiny dolls for my girls,
maybe a charm for a bracelet for my older girls, but no matter what you put in them there is a joy in giving
them. These are for the elves and because it is to mark the 6th of December there
are 6.

The Gift

The best gifts are the ones from the heart, the ones that
the person didn't go to the store and purchase but the ones
made with their hearts and hands. Here is such a gift, small but lovely.
Make it and let your heart give this to someone who needs to feel love.

Love

In the Japanese Culture one of the meanings of the
cherry blossom is love, if Christmas should be a
symbol of anything it should be love.

Toddler Mittens

As we got older and hit the toddling years we got
thumbs in our mittens and our own special charts.
We thought it was because Mam loved us so much and wanted

it was so she could tell whose were whose. The love
never needed to be illustrated, there was never a doubt it was there

Mam;s Baby Mittens

Our Mam was the most amazing woman, when each of us
were born she would unravel a sweater recycle the yarn and make baby
mitts. She knit them flat. I redesigned them to be knit in the round.
When each of her grandchildren were born my Mam had the mittens made
and even though the need was no longer there, she still made them out of recycled
sweaters. Unfortunately when my children were born , our Mam was watching from above.
On the day of the delivery I was handed a box, the note was in
my Mam's handwriting and there were the mittens. The ones I thought My children would
not have. I was then handed another box and in it was one of my Mam's cashmere
jumpers with a note here is for you to make the ones I can't be there for.
So I give you a gift that every child should be lucky enough to receive.
A gift of love.

The Sixth Little Kitten

The sixth little kitten lost her warrior mitten and has asked for guidance from the might chiefs.
Her hope will be that you find it you see and bring her some relief.

Ya'at'eeh Keshmish

Ya'at'eeh Keshmish means Merry Christmas in Navajo. I have spent a great deal of time  in the Navajo
nation.
"Everyday is our Christmas. Every meal is our Christmas. At every meal we take a little portion of the food we are eating, and we offer it to the spirit world on behalf of the four legged, and the winged, and the two legged. We pray--not the way most Christians pray-- but we thank the Grandfathers, the Spirit, and the Guardian Angel."

"The Indian Culture is actually grounded in the traditions of a Roving Angel. The life-ways of Roving Angels are actually the way Indian People live. They hold out their hands and help the sick and the needy. They feed and clothe the poor. We have high respect for the avatar because we believe that it is in giving that we receive."

"We are taught as Traditional children that we have abundance. The Creator has given us everything: the water, the air we breathe, the earth as our flesh, and our energy force: our heart. We are thankful every day. We pray early in the morning, before sunrise, to the morning star, and the evening star. We pray for our relatives who are in the universe that someday they will come. We also pray that the Great Spirit's son will live again." "To the Indian People Christmas is everyday and they don't believe in taking without asking. Herbs are prayed over before being gathered by asking the plant for permission to take some cuttings. An offer of tobacco is made to the plant in gratitude. We do not pull the herb out by its roots, but cut the plant even with the surface of the earth, so that another generation will be born its place."

"It is really important that these ways never be lost. And to this day we feed the elders, we feed the family on Christmas day, we honor Saint Nicholas. We explain to the little children that to receive a gift is to enjoy it, and when the enjoyment is gone, they are pass it on to the another child, so that they, too, can enjoy it. If a child gets a doll, that doll will change hands about eight times in a year, from one child to another."

Many Tribes, including the Laguna Indians, many of whom accepted Christianity some 400 years ago, have the custom of a dance on Christmas Eve or Christmas, where gifts are offered at the Manger. There are many representations of gifts brought to braves in the fields by the great Thunderbird; or scenes with the wise men being replaced by the chiefs representing the great Nations.

The house that Mam built

Every Christmas season, our Mam made a Gingerbread house and let all of us decorate it with her. It seemed that there was a lot less candy on the house than what she bought and yet no extra.
Never figured out how that happened as when I do it with my children the phenomenon repeats itself.
The house that Mam built

I heard the bells on Christmas Day

I heard the bells on Christmas Day was a poem written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow put to music:
I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play
And mild and sweet their songs repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to man
And the bells are ringing
Like a choir their singing
In my heart I hear them
Peace on earth, good will to men
I heard the bells on Christmas Day:

The Day is coming quick to and end

So you will see the final clue and now I wonder what will you do. Will you do sock A or do sock B  and will you end your day with a tree. We hope this mystery has brought you some fun and look forward to photos when you are done. But a warning to all do not be meek, as this mystery will magically disappear in a week.

Amazement

I looked in amazement for what did I see , the clues for the leg version A and version B. I said to myself "oh what do I do ?" Do I make them the same or do I just make 2. These thoughts in my head began to bubble as is she trying to keep us from from getting in trouble. We eejit's are specials she says so we know, but when it comes to mischief tis hard to say NO

A riddle

What could the new post possibly be, let me think 1... 2.... 3...... why it is only clue 2 part B, the poor snow people seem to need some clothes, but you will have to put on your thinking caps and embroider those. Oh no how could that be , it gives you something to do before Clue 3. When clue 3 arrives you will have to think as the clue will make you choose in a blink. So happy knitting for the rest of the day  as it is going to get fun in a wonderful way.

Friday, October 7, 2011

Clue 2

Tis a brand new day so what did we do, of course we put up clue number two, go to the first post and

Something is in the wind

Over the next week a variety of clues will be given with the appropriate link for a mini mystery. I ask that you not share with people not in the group as the pattern will be put up for charity after the mystery is over. Just a bit of fun for those who have little feet in the family: With love from our family to yours.

We all have tradtions:

We all have traditions, some of us do not even realize that they are there. Be it for the good or the bad our history is part of who we are. It has been a difficult year, not just for me ,but for the world. People have lost homes, jobs, families, some have lost their moral compass, some feel lost. For me traditions always center me, so for those who do not have them I will share them, for those who have them share them with us. In a time when so much is uncertain, let this be a place where there will always be kindness, a recipe, a pattern, a thought or a process that perhaps brightens a day. After all part of being an eejit is that there is unconditional love, kindness and support.
